POSITION SUMMARY:
Tucson is a multicultural, southwestern city with more than 1 million people. It is renowned for its rich heritage and superb weather and is located in a desert valley surrounded by four mountain ranges in Southeastern Arizona at an elevation of 2,400 feet.

Pima Community College opens its doors to more than 75,000 credit and non-credit students each year. Six campuses offer university-transfer programs, as well as occupational, developmental, general education, corporate training, and community education courses. Classes are offered at six campuses, four community-learning centers, and approximately 180 other off-campus locations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Teaching a broad range of courses in the discipline or subject area
  • Using a wide range of delivery systems, such as lecture, lecture/lab, self-paced, independent or individualized instruction, internet, flex, open-entry/open-exit, and other alternatives
  • Conferencing with students regarding academic success
  • Evaluating student performance
  • Providing academic advising
  • Evaluating and revising course outlines, course materials, and instructional methods
  • Participating in curriculum design
  • Building community relations and developing the program at the campus and the College
  • Maintaining competency and currency in the discipline taught as well as in teaching strategies and assessment methods
  • Mentoring adjunct faculty
  • Serving as a member of the department
  • Serving on college-wide committees
  • Performing other professional duties
  • Faculty members will be expected to teach a flexible schedule that could include day, evening, and weekend classes

The ideal faculty candidate will have knowledge of:
  • Student learning styles: willing to adapt and modify based on the population of students
  • Assessment instruments and their interpretation: understands how assessment information will be used to improve institutional programs and services
  • Evaluation of a student’s educational progress: holds students responsible for learning and being able to perform the material
  • Techniques for academic advising: understands the myriad of resources available through student development and can help students sort through problems
  • Current issues, trends, advances, research, and practices impacting the discipline
  • Knowledge of computerized medical software programs (example: Medisoft)
  • Experience with course management systems such as WebCT or Blackboard

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Qualifications for faculty positions are governed by our Faculty Certification Standards.

This position is in an Occupational discipline and requires the following:
  • Baccalaureate degree, master’s degree preferred
  • Current clinical dental hygiene practice for a minimum of two (2) years with six (6) months of the two years of practice immediately preceding application
  • Current local anesthesia and nitrous oxide inhalation licensure (Arizona licensure preferred)
  • Eligibility for Arizona dental/dental hygiene licensure (Arizona licensure preferred)
  • Dental hygienist preferred

Unofficial transcripts for all post-secondary education MUST be attached to the online application even if they have been submitted in the past. Transcripts must show the name of the accredited institution and the degree conferred. If degree is not yet conferred, indicate on the application the anticipated date of completion of degree requirements. Applicants with foreign transcripts must provide the evaluation for equivalency.
